Reading Brian's new way of life has changed the way I think because its amazing some of the things Brian has done such as build/find shelter, fly the plane, make fire, find food, and delt with the encounter of a bear.

I feel like Brian must be very patient with everything he cant do at first or thinking about how he might not be rescued.

  3. 1. I have learned that even if your alone you shouldn't wait just to do something that you want to do just do it don't let anybody stop you from doing it and in Brian's case no body can stop him because he is in the middle of no where . This has changed the way I think because as were moving along further and further into the book he is becoming different than how he started out in the first couple of chapters until you get more into the book. He is being different because he is a city boy and now he has been out there long enough to know how to build a fire, catch food, build shelter and get water.

  5. I have learned how some things that can help me survive in the wild this has changed the way I think because now if I look at something and think back to Hatchet I could see how that would benifit me in the wild and if I havent read Hatchet I wouldnt bother taking notice of it.

  6. Reading Hatchet has changed the way I think because it showed me that survival doesn't always come from bravery, it comes from strategic thinking and being aware of your surroundings. That inspired me because it makes me feel like I can be successful using the same depth of thinking that Brian is currently using to survive.

  7. 1. I have learned that you should never give up. No matter what is coming you need to hold to your life and be brave and face your own problems. This is what I have learned from Brian so far in the novel.
It has changed the way I think because now I now that if you ever get stranded by yourself that if you don't let your fears first and fight for your life than you will survive. I used to think you would just die, now I believe you can live in the wilderness stranded if you try to .

  8. 1. I have learned that you should always be brave and never give up ever no matter what because if you were in Brians situation then you would have to to figure out how to survive and you couldn't do that by just sitting around and being sad and upset that your on your own.

    2. I think Hatchet has changed the way I think because now if I'm in a situation or in a problem or having trouble with something I remember to be brave and not give up.

    1. I like how you said if you were in Brian's situation because you referred to someone being Brian and seeing what it is like being him doing what he is doing. =)

  9. After reading Hatchet, I realized that you don't need a gun or knife to hunt but you can make tools and also hunt other things like fish and that you don't have to always eat meat but you can also eat fruit. Yes this changed the way I thought because I always thought of how in movies or survival videos they have water because the people who are filming this they give them boats, water and tools to catch food.

  10. 1. Brian has experienced many challenges, and we have discussed how Brian has grown as a result of his conflict. What have you learned about life from what you have been reading? Has this changed the way you think? Explain.

I have learned some things from the book like in the beginning I would have not of thought to crash the plane into the lake. I also learned that if you start doing one thing you should not start something else because then you could forget what else you were doing.

It changes how I see things a little bit because I know different ways to survive in the forest so I do not think that it would be as hard to survive in the forest alone as much as I did before even though it would still be hard.

  11. 1.One thing I have learned is that when you are facing a conflict, It is never a good idea to just sit around waiting for something to happen. I also have learned about how the things Brian did could possibly affect me in life. For example, I f I was in the wilderness all alone I will think back on this book remembering what Brian did to survive. Also If my parents got divorced, (which I hope they don't) I would have to tell the truth of what happened if I knew so it would not get worse.

    1. (part 2) This has changed my way of think because if I was out in the wilderness I would be like ''I can do this and nothing can get in my way.'' When I would actually be really scared.

  12. 1.One thing I have learned from his experience, is that you should never take anything for granted.

2.In a way because I thought,at the first part of the book Brian was just a normal kid but then the spilt is when my thinking started to change. Then the crash happen and my thinking changed even more because it became a regular changing of the story. As of right now I am thinking how can someone do all this.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 1.)One thing I have learned is do not take things to serious.

2.)I thought that Brian is normal at first but after that he changes to a wilderness boy, and has second thoughts about his area and now he has what he needs to survive and so he calls the area he is in HOME.

    2. Dear Nathan, I agree that it is not good to take things too serious but I do not see that Brian learned that in Hatchet.

    3. Good job, but for number 1, I get your thinking, but he does need t take things seriously, but not to the point where he doesn't care. ~Kelly Lee

  14. 1. Something I have learned from his experiences is that even when your life is really tough and it feels like death is the best thing that can happen to you, you push death out of your mind and push on.

    2. This novel has changed the way I think because it has taught me to never give up and be grateful for what I have and suppose I was in the situation Brian is in I would think the way Brian has and that would help me survive.

  15. 1. I have learned from Brians experiences that if you focus and dont think about sad or bad things you can accomplish almost anything like building a shelter or finding food.

2.At first Brian is a "city boy" which means he is used to a city and cars and skyscrapers but now Brian has changed he is now used to the wilderness and sees and hears wilderness things.

  16. 1. (part) 1 What I have learned about life from reading this book is that most people are used to having everything handed to them. For example, when Brian was extremely hungry, he thought about when he would go and buy two huge hamburgers and a freezie slush, which he would not have to truly work for. It is clear that Brian has learned not to take things for granted after all of the trouble he had.
(part 2) Yes, this has changed the way I think because I never thought of not being able to have food whenever I need it. I have not because I am used to having anything I need, whenever I need it. Also, I am like Brian because I have never had to really work to get my food in my entire life. This makes me more appreciative of the things I have in my life.

    1. I loved your examples for question 1 and that you said he did not have to truly work for the food

  17. 1. What I have learned about life is do things in small steps and dont think of the big idea like getting found you have to think about surviving. Brian is also thinking of survival in small steps first he got water then got food then finally shelter. This has helped me to not get worried or scared about something like the reflection project I am taking it in small steps and not just doing it to get it finished .

  18. I have learned that in life you can be put in situations you are not prepared for and forced to deal with them in a way which could be a life or death situation. Like when Brian crashes the plane into the woods and is forced to survive on his own and is put in a life or death situation when he has to figure out what to do in time and not wait around for help because it has been a while since he had the plane crash and if he did not do anything productive he could have died easily.

This book has changed the way I think because I have always been used to everything sitting there waiting for me to use it and I don't have to do any work to get it. The way Brian now has to live is completely different from the way I am used to living and it probably is totally different from Brian's "old life" in New York. It makes me think about what my life could be like if everything I had ever had that is just waiting for me to use is taken away and that I would not have been able to handle that kind of situation like Brian did like by never giving up, staying positive, doing his best at whatever he does.

  19. I have learned that in life crying doesn't get you anywhere. You should never underestimate yourself. Always make sure that you use your resources correctly. Try to be brave in scary situations. You are your most important tool. Life isn't always easy.

This has changed the way I think because sometimes I think "what would I do if I were in Brian's situation?" I also think that by having confidence in yourself and hard work can lead to success and in Brian's situation it has lead to his survival.

    Hunter Colson

  20. What I learned is that in life you cant underestimate thing, you cant take things for granted. You can't cry all day and expect something to happen after crying. You have to work for yourself and at least try. Don't think REALLY BIG, you got to think simple before BIG. Use your surrounding to help, use them wisely.

It has changed the way I think about the wild and life it self. Its not about BIG, its about work and perseverance. If you cant work through life, you cant survive. You got to get up and try and not sit and give up. ~Kelly Lee

  21. 1. Brian has experienced many challenges, and we have discussed how Brian has grown as a result of his conflict. What have you learned about life from what you have been reading? Has this changed the way you think?

I have learned that in some parts of the world it is harder to survive. What I mean by that is I have survived in the woods for fun but with just a machete but that was here at my house in the woods.
Part2: No not really because I personally know how to survive and how to live in the wild.

  22. 1. I've learned that there are many challenges in life and that you have to work hard to survive.

    2. Not really because I knew many survival skills already and what to do in his situation.

  23. I've learned that not everything that is fun is indoors but could be fun but still challenging outdoors.

  24. It has not changed the way I think because I have always knew how to survive in a bad situation.

  25. 1. You can never lose hope, look outside of what you see, and never give up or you will die

    ReplyDelete
  26. if you give up hope you will not find resources if you look outside of what you see you can find items you need or don't need and if you give up you will die if you can not get resources

    ReplyDelete
  27. part 1.) life is very important. If you give up hope then you also lose pride in your work and yourself. If you keep up your hope then you feel well about what you do and who you are.

part 2.) It has, it forces me to think harder about what the question is and what I am doing to answer the question. Also I work harder to get the answer I am looking for.
