HELLO, FABULOUS FIFTH GRADE! BELOW ARE YOUR RESPONSE QUESTIONS FOR CHPTR. 7 OF HATCHET:
1. In Chptr. 7, Brian does not like what he sees as he saw his reflection in the water. "Ugly; very, very ugly" he thought. He slaps the water with his hand to destroy the mirror. Explain what is meant by Brian trying to destroy the mirror. Be specific.
2. In Chptr. 7, Brian encounters a bear. Yet, the bear causes him no harm. Regardless, the encounter is very much still in Brian's thoughts. As darkness came into his shelter, Brian took the hatchet out of his belt, putting it by his head and holding the handle. Why do you think Brian chose to keep the hatchet, for the very first time, close to him. Explain.

1. In Chptr. 6, Brian was thinking about the time of day based on the sun. More importantly, in using the sun to reflect on the time of day, Brian began thinking about what his Mom would be doing. Brian thinks, "Today she would be going to see him. Explain the significance of the word "him" being written in italics. What is the meaning behind using the italics?
2. Brian determined that as long as he stayed close to the lake, so he could keep the water on his right, he wouldn't get lost while looking for berries/food. "Simple. Keep it simple. I am Brian Robeson..." Explain why Brian's thinking (what is quoted) might be beneficial to his survival. Be specific.
