  1. 1. In Chptr. 2, a little boy in the crowd looked at a soldier and said, "All of Denmark is King Christian's body guard". Explain what the little boy meant by his statement. Be specific. What might that mean to the people of Denmark?

This means people in Denmark will basically be with him stay with him and help him even if it cost their life so if the Nazis tried to kill him then the people of Denmark would try to save him.

    2. Since the death of Lise, everyone seemed changed. In addition, Copenhagen, Denmark, was not the same since the Nazis occupation. "The whole world had changed. Only the fairy tales remained the same". Explain the meaning and significance of the quoted sentences.

This means no matter wherever fairy tales are told or whatever time they don't change unless you tell it a different way but in real life the world changes either in a good way or a bad way and fairy tales aren't real.

    1. I like how you said in number 2 that fairy tales don't change unless you tell it a different way

  2. 1. " All of Denmark is King Christian's body guard" means that anyone would die for him and try there best to protect him so he doesn't end up killed or injured. In chapter 2 papa said " Any Danish citizen would die for King Christian ,to protect him".

2." The whole world has changed. Only the fairy tales remained the same" means that since fairy tails aren't real and Lise is dead then they both don't exist then it's not the same because those things aren't real in life but it seems real in a fairy tail.

  3. 1.I think the boy’s statement “All of Denmark is King Christian’s body guard” means that everyone in Denmark loves their king and they would be willing to die for him if need be.

2.The quoted sentence means that the world is at that time, and can be, a terrible place, but fairytales will always provide a magical and wonderful world for people to see.

  4. " All of Denmark is King Christian's body guard " means that people would risk their lifes for him and they were happy to help when he needs it .

    2. It means as time moves on nothing is going to change and we can't help it,but with fairy tales every thing stays the same and there is always a happy ending, unlike the real world were anything could happen and we can't change what happens to us so the best thing is to help when you can and be nice to everyone.

  6. 1. In Chptr. 2, a little boy in the crowd looked at a soldier and said, "All of Denmark is King Christian's body guard". Explain what the little boy meant by his statement. Be specific. What might that mean to the people of Denmark?

1.) I think it means that anyone in Denmark would die for their king to live because he is a kind king, not like a king who stand on a balcony giving orders. He has no royal body guard but all in his kingdom loves him.

    2. Since the death of Lise, everyone seemed changed. In addition, Copenhagen, Denmark, was not the same since the Nazis occupation. "The whole world had changed. Only the fairy tales remained the same". Explain the meaning and significance of the quoted sentences.

2.) What it means is that fairy tales are good and happy, ending with "And They Lived Happy Ever After" but life does not always end with a happy ever after. So even if there is a change in how a fairy tale is tolled it still ends in happy ever after but if life changes there may be no happy ever after in life.

  7. The little boy ment that all of Denmark is willing to protect the king, with their own life and try too keep bad things from happening to the king so he can continue to lead their country as a good, loving, kind king

The quoted phrase means that fairy tales always have a happily ever after ending, and the storyline is quite predictable, because it doesn't change. With life, on the other hand, it is very unpredictable because just when everything is normal something changes that surprises you so much that you don't know how to deal with it so you are left, in the dark, unable to do anything about it.

  8. 1. The little boy meant that all of Denmark protects the king. It means that all the people in Denmark will fight for him.

  9. 1. In Chptr. 2, a little boy in the crowd looked at a soldier and said, "All of Denmark is King Christian's body guard". Explain what the little boy meant by his statement. Be specific. What might that mean to the people of Denmark?
When the little boy said all of Denmark is king Christian X's body guard he meant that the citizens of Denmark would gladly stand up and protect the king just as a body guard would do. He also means the citizens will comply to his orders without refusal.

    2. Since the death of Lise, everyone seemed changed. In addition, Copenhagen, Denmark, was not the same since the Nazis occupation. "The whole world had changed. Only the fairy tales remained the same". Explain the meaning and significance of the quoted sentences.
The statement "The whole world had changed. Only the fairy tales remained the same" means that in the fairy tales anything you want to happen happens so if they are taken over in real life then in a fairy tale they can make everything turn out good.

  10. 1) I thing the statement might mean that the King of Denmark doesn't need an army to protect him like Hitler because all of Denmark is loyal to him, unlike Germany to Hitler.

    2) I think the quoted sentences: "The whole world had changed. Only the fairy tales remained the same". means that since the Nazis invaded Denmark a lot of people have lost their lives and things and people that they loved, and to even think that someone like the Nazis and Hitler would invade your own country overnight and have hate and wanting to kill and send people to concentration camps and burn them is surreal. The only think the Jewish and Danish people have left that hasn't changed and wont is the fairy tales that have been passed down through families. Also the fairy tales give you hope and what you can always dream about coming true and its something that you can always remember that fairy tales don't always happen the way you want them to compared to things that have happened in the past.

  11. 1.)When the boy said "All of Denmark is his bodyguard" I think that all of the kings people would stand up for him just so they could protect him. They would all die for King Christian X.

2.)The whole world has been changed because of the war that's going around in Europe. The fairy tales remained the same because the general idea of stories remain the same through generations.

  12. 1.I think the boy is trying to say that the people of Denmark love there king and will be willing to take risks and chances for their king. They would rather have king Christian than any other king so they would take a bullet or any other punishment for him.

    2. I think that when they say the fairy tales will never change is that fairy tales are like traditions, they are meant to stay the same, they will always be told the same. The world has changed but not in a good way. People have been killed, loved ones, strangers, they all matter because one little change affects the whole world.

  13. 1. When the boy says "All of Denmark is King Christian's body guard", I think he meant they would all stick together and defend King Christian and all of Denmark. For the citizens that shows they are very brave and loyal to there country. They will risk there own lives for there king.

    -Olivia

2.Anthing can happen in a fairytale, it comes from your imagination. You can decide what happens. You can change it but, not if you don't want to . It is up to you! The world can change but, your in control of your imagination.

    1. Dear Olivia, I liked your response to question number one because you mentioned that the people were loyal to King Christian and Denmark.

  14. 1.When the boy said "all of Denmark is his body gaurd"He meant that everyone and anyone in Denmark would fight or die for King Christian. I think this because later on in the chapter, when Annemarie and her dad were talking to each other her dad stated that anyone would die for King Christian, even himself and Annemarie's mom would.

2.Probably when the Nazis weren't invading Denmark they were happy and the kids were frolicking because they were a free country. Back when they were free thy still had fairy tales but they were also free. Then when the Nazis came their ways changed. The people of Denmark couldn't have real tea or real coffee and they wren't frolicking and playing. I think that the the fairy tales are still the same as when Denmark was a free country because with Kirsti's explanation, the fairy tales were still good, happy, charming, and fun just like the ones when Denmark was a free country and free from the Nazis.

  15. I think he ment by all of Denmark was his bodyguard because he knew, everyone in Denmark would give their life to save him.

2.The meaning of the quoted sentence is that the German Nazis had impacted the world. The fairy tales will always be the same because the fairy tales are fantasy. In fairy tales everything is perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 1. I think he means that Denmark loves king Christian X so much that they will protect him from anything. This means to the people of Denmark that they should stand by the king no matter what.

2.I think this means that the fairy tales haven't changed since the Nazi invasion. The things in the fairy tales are mostly things the people if Denmark had be fore the invasion so it wouldn't make sense for them to change.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1) What the little boy means by "All of Denmark is King Christian's bodyguard" is that every citizen of Denmark would be willing to fight and protect King Christian. The citizens are willing to die to protect him. The Nazi's do not like King Christian because he is Jewish. They dislike all Jewish people. They want to control all of the Jews. What this means to the citizens are that hey may have to give their lives and face the Nazis.
2)"The whole world had changed. Only the fairy tales remained the same", means that before the Nazis invaded life was not hard. They did not have to worry about being controlled and having a fear for their lives. Children could play and run, people could read newspapers freely, there were no limits on items like sugar and butter. Life before the invasion could be thought of as a fairy tale compared to how it was now. Fairy tales are happy with happy endings. The people were not happy now and unsure of the ending they would face.

  18. 1. In Chptr. 2, a little boy in the crowd looked at a soldier and said, "All of Denmark is King Christian's body guard". Explain what the little boy meant by his statement. Be specific. What might that mean to the people of Denmark?

    1. What the little boy meant by his statement was that, because King Christian was such a good king that all of Denmark would do anything at all to protect him. To the people of Denmark, this might mean that some people were able to stand up to the Germans even though they were afraid of them. This could mean they have a chance against the Nazis.

    2. Since the death of Lise, everyone seemed changed. In addition, Copenhagen, Denmark, was not the same since the Nazis occupation. "The whole world had changed. Only the fairy tales remained the same". Explain the meaning and significance of the quoted sentences.

    2. What the quoted sentence means is that everything has changed for the worse so the only things that were happy were make believe, like fairy tales. The significance of that was that people's imagination was still there and people still have hope for a better time, even though thing were so bad.

  19. When the little boy said "All of Denmark is King Christian's body guard" he meant that all the people of Denmark would risk their own life to protect the kings and always be there like a real bodyguard

    2. The meaning of "The whole world had changed. Only the fairy tales remained the same" is that since the Nazis moved into Copenhagen, Denmark they have been hard ,and they had made their life's miserable and took away stuff they like. The significance of "The whole world had changed. Only the fairy tales remained the same" was that they now had a completely different lifestyle and had to follow the new and harsh rules that the Nazis made up

  20. 1. The boy had meant that all the people of Denmark would serve and protect him and it means to them that he is a very important person.
    2. They mean that the world had changed because of WWII but the fairy tales didn't because they always ended happily ever after.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 1. I think he means that all the people of Denmark would either get injured, fight or even die protecting their precious King Christian X. It may mean a lot of people will die because a lot of Germans may try to attack the king.

    2. It means the world had gone into war after the world was at peace which is a change and a fairy tale is a fairy tale which doesn't change at all since a fairy tale is a tale that is made up and one example is Jack and the Beanstalk.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1. I think that it means that any person in Denmark would give their life for him to live and they would risk that for the king to stay alive. Denmark is very loyal to King Christian X.

    2. " The whole world has changed. Only the fairy tales remained the same" means that since the Nazi soldiers have overtaken Copenhagen, Denmark there whole world has changed because they cant be free and do things without being killed, but in fairy tales everything is the same unless you tell it different. In fairy tales they are not controlled by what they have to do.

  23. Question 1: I think the little boy meant that king Christian was nice and caring about them so they would die protecting him because of what he does for them.

Question 2: what that means is that they all used to be free but now since the nazis came everything they now and love changed, but the fairy tales never change because they are made up and the limit to a fairy tale is your own imagination which is one thing the nazis can't take away.

  25. 1. The boy is basically stating that if the King is hurt, Denmark would guard him. Even if it meant loosing their own life. It could mean if the king went down, Denmark would go down. Since the king is doing his best for his citizens, they return the favor back.

    2. What is means is that with the Nazis coming in, the things they loved changed, its not the same. Unlike fairy tales you can keep adding and adding on to what your story is. Like if you wanted they story to have castle, you have a castle. But in real life if you wanted freedom with the Nazis, you have to fight for it. ~Kelly Lee
