  1. 1) I think the mood of the first two chapters is kind've sad because it talks about Lise and how the Jewish people have to live. The novel has kind of made me feel sad because while I've been reading it makes me think about how misrable and upset the Jewish people were and how they were treated and sent to consentration and extermination camps.

  2. The mood of the first two chapters were sad because it talks about how the soldiers just came in and ruled then it talked about Lise and her death. When I read the first two chapters it made me think how hard it would be if I was there, they have no fun, no freedom and no SUGAR/COFFEE/TEA.

  3. 1.) I think it is sorta scary but sad and happy at the same time because in chapter 1 when they were stopped by the solider it was sorta scary but in chapter 2 when they talked about Annemarie's big sister it was sad because she had died in a car wreck two weeks before her wedding but the part about the part about the fairy tale telling was happy. So I believe the "mood" is sad so far in the book.

    1. It didn't say that Lise died in a car wreck in Chpt. 1 or 2. Where did you get that info?

    2. Sally, I think that Emily thought that Lise died in a car wreck because that was probably what first cam to mind. Like when you hear or see the word ACCIDENT, the first thing you think of is CAR WRECK. Or like you said, she got it from reading ahead or from somewhere else. But more than Likely she just thought of car wreck.

    3. I got it from how she was died and she was also in a car wreck.

  4. The mood of the novel so far is bad/sad because there are Nazis everywhere and Annemarie is still grieving about Lise’s death. The novel makes me feel sad when it talks about Lise’s death. It makes me feel mad when it talks about Germany taking over. It makes me feel happy when it talks about Annemarie’s fairytales. A thought that came to my mind reading the first two chapters is that around that time period Denmark life was terrible if you were not a German soldier.

  5. 1) The mood of the first two chapters was sad because the Jewish people have no sugar, butter, and coffee. They also were controlled by the Germans and could only do what the Germans said. When I'm reading the book I feel sad. I imagine myself in the situation and I think I would want to ask my parents what was happening and want to know if the war was ever going to end. When I read it I wonder if were going to get out of the situation.

  6. 1. How would you describe the "mood" of the novel after the first two chapters? How does the novel make you feel so far? What thoughts have come to your mind while reading the first two chapters

I would describe the mood of the first 2 chapters as sad because a lot of sad things had happened like Lise's death, the Nazi soldiers and they had limited freedom, no sugar, tea and coffee and the people who were Jewish were either killed or sent to extermination or concentration camps.
I felt when I read the 2 chapters that I was lucky that I didn't live back then when the Nazis did that because they are basically not treated as humans but animals if they are sent to those camps.
I thought that it must have been so hard to live back then and in a book that I read called Someone Named Eva she is Jewish and the Nazis take them away and her grandma gives her a pin that means she is Jewish and her little sister is sent away to a school where she learns to be a German child and her dad and brother die and her grandma dies because at the concentration camp she was worked too hard and Eva isn't her real name but the name the Nazis gave her and she has been adopted by a family of rich Germans and then they find her mom and lives with her mom and aunt.

  7. The mood of the novel so far is sad because the Nazis have taken over control of Denmark and they have soldiers on every corner and have taken away sugar, cupcakes, etc. Also Lise died 2 weeks before her wedding and now Mama and Papa don't even open the truck because it will bring back memories .

  8. I would describe the mood of the novel so far is sad because it is talking about how the Nazi and Hitler took over Denmark and treated Danish people very bad. It is also sad when they talked about Lise's death. I makes me feel happy and sad, like it makes me feel happy when Annemarie tells fairy tales to Kirti. It makes me feel sad when they talk about Hitler and the Nazi taking over Denmark and killing innocent people. A thought that came into my mind is how awful it would be to live in the time period without any freedom and by making one mistake I could be killed.

  9. I think the "mood" is sad because, of how everything changes in the second chapter like King Christian Peter Nielson. Lise dies then everything seems to change.

  10. I would say the "mood" of the novel so far is sad because we learned that the Jewish people came in and just took their freedom and privileges, and that Lise (Annmarie's older sister)died in a car accident. The novel has made me feel sad because you see how people really got treated back then in that time when Germany really did take over Denmark, and all the other places it talked about in the novel so far. The thoughts that came to my mind was how it really was back then.

  11. I would describe the mood of the story so far is sad/bad/and scary. It makes me feel sorry for any one that had to suffer during that time period. Thoughts I have had so far are what happened to Lise, why did King Christian X not try to sign a peace aggrement with Adolf Hitler.

    2. I agree with Hayden, the book never said King Christian X made a peace agreement with Hitler.

  12. I describe the mood of number the stars as sad because in two chapters we've already found out that Annemarie's older sister is dead ,the Germans have restricted them by standing on every street corner, and the Germans have taken away their coffee tea and cupcakes.

  15. 1. I would describe the mood as interesting and making me want to read more. It makes me feel wanting to read on and see what happens next. The thoughts that came to my mind were how they were going to sail to Sweden and what happens when they go to school the next morning.

  16. 1. How would you describe the "mood" of the novel after the first two chapters? How does the novel make you feel so far? What thoughts have come to your mind while reading the first two chapters?

    1. After the first two chapters I would describe the mood as sad. So far the novel has made me feel like the mood, sad. It also made me feel like things will get a whole lot worse. One thought that has come to my mind while I was reading the novel was what an unfair life they have. Also, I thought about how lucky I am to have such a wonderful life.

  17. This novel has made me sad. I think the novel is sad because it must be hard for people to live happily and free, because there was no sugar, tea, coffee, cupcakes, or frosting. Also when I think about the Danish people's lives i think of how horrible it was for them to have soldiers on every block, corner, store or house and for them to be watching your every move and step you take. They would go rummaging through your belongings and all in your house too. Sometimes The Nazi soldiers would steal your things like bread, books, clothing or anything that they needed for their own lives.

  18. 1.The mood of the story is depressing.I think it is depressing because, there king is dying,Annmarie's sister Lise, died , and everyone has to live scared, and cautious because of the soldiers "on every corner".So far the first two chapters have made me intrigued to learn if anyone inst who they have said they are. While I read the first two chapters, a few thoughts came into my mind but the main thing that came into my mind was "Why did they take specific foods?" (coffee, butter, sugar, tea)Just to torture them?

  19. I think it is sad because it talks about Lise's death and how the Jews couldn't have much freedom since Hitler was in control and would tell the Nazis what to do (like attack one place, then another, and another, and another, etc.) The novel makes me also feel sad because it talks about how the Nazis would tell the Danish people what to do. My thoughts are: What would our lives be like if we were living back then? What would do if we our country got pulled into another war?

  20. The mood of the novel so far is sad and depressing because to think about foreign people coming in your country and invading it, is really sad and hard, also knowing if you have a sister who died, having jewish friends who can be taken away any moment is hard. They are even taking food like sugar, tea, coffee, cupcakes, etc. Its not as easy as it is today. We have better things to fight with. But its history. One thought that came to my mind was, why do they take away simple foods, its not really torture, but its still rude. Another thought is, why? Why did it start? Taking things and invading homes and streets. ~Kelly Lee

  24. 1. I think the mood of the story is scary and sad. If you think about it, Annemarie has had scary times in her life such as having the encounter with the Nazi soldiers. She also has a sad emotion effect because her sister Lise has died and she died when Annemarie was little. The story in just the first chapters has me getting emotional, yet I can not wait to read more. I think that I can say my thoughts are that we will find out how Lise died and how sad it must be living like that and how scared would I be if I took a characters place in the book.
