Mrs. Johansen would try to act as if she were excited because she doesn't want to worry the children and she knows that since the Rosen family are in danger she should act happy so the girls wouldn't ask questions and get Ellen sad.

Annemarie remembers the "brightly colored lights, the carousel and ice cream and especially the magnificent fireworks". It was a place where they had lots of fun. The Nazi's have shut it down and "burned part of it perhaps as a way to punish the funloving Danes for the lighthearted pleasure". It was another way to tortue the Danish people.

I think Tivoli Gardens is so important to the Danish people because after all the horrible things that happened, caused by the Nazis, they can go to Tivoli Gardens and have a little relaxation and fun. Instead of having to hear guns firing the Danish people can go and see some fireworks with friends and family or do some dancing and have a good time.

2. The meaning of this quote is, Mrs. Johnson is trying to make it seem like nothing is wrong when something actually is. When I read this I thought, "what is wrong, why is Mrs. Johnson acting so strangely". Mrs. Johnson is acting so exited about it because she does not want Annemarie and Kirsti to be worried or frightened.
I think it is so important because it is like a place for them to have fun and spend time with family In a peaceful patch of land

I think that Tivioli is so important to the people of Denmark because it was there place of freedom and escape from the harsh was of the people caused by the Nazis and there were so many good and fun things there because there are over 30 restaurants, 25 rides, 400 000 flowers and many different arts and crafts in Tivioli Gardens.
