BLOG RESPONSE QUESTIONS FOR HATCHET, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2015

HELLO, FABULOUS FIFTH GRADE!  BELOW ARE YOUR RESPONSE QUESTIONS FOR HATCHET:

1.  Thinking back on our most recent chapters of Hatchet, specifically, Chptr. 7, when Brian encounters the bear, is there anything that you would have done differently if you had been Brian in that situation?  Explain.  Be specific.

2.  Make a list of  some of the events in Chptrs. 1-7 that have caused suspense in the novel?

    1. If I was Brian in a situation with a bear I would have run my legs off because I don't want to die early. Or if the bear came at me i would have stood as still as a statue.

    2.Some things to name are- the pilot had a heart attack,Brian came across a bear, Brain hit some trees when he was going down, the berries he ate that the birds led him to made him sick,he found rasberries

    1. I would have began to walk very slowly and keep the hatchet in my hand as I go slowly closer to the camp or " home ".

      I like how on number one you described how you would walk away slowly with the hatchet, I also liked the way you wrote "home"

    1.I think that if I encountered a bear I would pretend I was dead because I heard that that is what you should do, so I would of not ran like Brian did.

    2. I think that the main events in chapter 1-7 are ,the divorce, the man, the pilot having a heart attack, Brian finding water, Brian making a shelter, Brian finding food,and the bear Brian encountered.

      Good Job on question 1, but when you compared what you would do to Brian you said he ran away but he did not he stood still. =)

    In Brians situation in theplane crash I would have went down as soon as I found a BIG body of water, In Brians encounter with the bear I would have thrown some berries past him hoping the bear would turn around; then I would grab my hatchet and go slowly till out of site then start to run.

    1.) I would of probably would have carefully stepped away from the bush the freeze, or stand still like a statue if I was Brian when he ran into the bear. I would also be surprised that the bear did not touch me if I was Brian.

    Heart attack
    The Bear
    Food (the "luck" of finding berries)

    1. If I wasn't frozen in my shoes, then I would have run as fast as i could away from the bear.

    1. If I encountered a bear in the woods I would try to hide in a nearby bush or shrub, but if there are no bushes or shrubs I would take out my hatchet and try to scare the bear away.

    2. here are some of the things that caused suspense in the story
    The mystery man
    The divorce
    The heart attack
    The "clean" water
    The bear
    These things caused suspense in the novel because they made you feel inquisitive and curious, and made you want to read on.

      Yes, but if you look in the text it says the water is clear with no bugs so Brian ASSUMES that the water is the clean.

    1.I would have run away because bears are very deadly and can kill you

    2. The things I think caused suspense (No Order) in Chptr.1-7 are:

    1. If I were to encounter a bear such as Brian did, I would be scared out of my socks to the point where I would probably faint. If I did not faint,(or die from a panic attack) I would take my hatchet and run as fast as my legs would take me to my ''home.''

    #1If I ran into the bear like Brian had in chapter 7 then I would have walked back slowly and keep my on him and put down the berries so the bear would eat the berries and not me.

    What I would do differently is I would drop the berries and slowly walk to back to my shelter.

    1. If I was in Brian's situation with the bear I would have slowly walked away because I've heard that bears don't like fast movements and will attack you if you run from them.

Explain. Be specific. I would not have have done anything different, but I would have pretended I was dead because that is what you are supposed to do when you see a black bear.

      I like your number two answer a lot, but in number 1 why would you run off because then the bear would most likely think that you were food because you moved.

      For number 1 wouldn't the bear always be quicker than you, and if you scream out loud the bear will sense fear and eat you and it wouldnt do any good because there's no one to hear you scream either.

    1. If I would have been Brian I would have done exactly what he did. I would be a statue, but if the bear started walking toward me then i would probably take out my hatchet (since that's all Brian had) and defend myself.

    1. I think that if i was in a situation where a bear was that close to me, I would stand still and wouldn't move a muscle until it was gone but if it had charged,
    would have ran to camp

    2. the pilot had a heart attack and died

    Brian crashed the plane in to a small lake

    Brian got attacked by mosquitoes and horseflies

    Brian found berries to eat

    Brian builds a shelter under a rock

    Brian thinks about "him" in hatred

    1) I think if I encountered a bear, I would have stayed still or slowly walk away back to shelter. Another thing I would have done is try and figure out what the bear had came for or if he wanted to harm me.

    1.I would just stay there and stood still and watch the bear because if he would want meat he would kill me but he just wanted raspberries. 2.The main events that happened will be in order; the man, the divorce, the pilots heart attack, the crash, the water supply, the gut cherries, the shelter, the raspberries and the bear.

    1. If I saw the bear I would not have stayed there like Brian did I would have ran away the second I saw the bear and I wouldn't have looked back.
