HELLO, FABULOUS FIFTH GRADE! BELOW ARE YOUR RESPONSE QUESTIONS FOR CHPTR. 12 OF HATCHET:
1. In Chptr. 12, Brian was surprised to feel full from eating the raspberries and drinking the red berry juice. For so long, he has only known the hunger. He realized that although he felt full, there was still a hunger there, but not like it was before--not one that was tearing at him.
Brian thought, "This was hunger that he knew would be there always, even when he had food--a hunger that made him look for things, see things. A hunger to make him hunt."
Explain the bold-printed thoughts of Brian regarding hunger. Be specific.
2. In Chptr. 12, Brian realizes that after eating all of the berries he did that his stomach still caved in. He came to the conclusion that his stomach must have shrunk. What is meant by the bold-printed (red) phrase? Did Brian's stomach really shrink? Yes or No and Explain.
1) I think the bold printed words "a hunger that made him look for things, see things. A hunger to make him hunt." means that Brian was finally full and decided that he had a bigger hunger for something other than berries he wants to hunt for real food, protein.
ReplyDelete2) I don't think Brian's stomach really shrunk. I just think that his stomach is getting used to not eating protein and other nutrients that he would normally eat when he was with his mother or father.
I liked that you said in q1 that he wanted to eat something else besides berries called protein.
DeleteI like where you are going with question two but you could have added more details.
DeleteI like in q. 1 you sayed how Brian probably wanted something other than berries (he needed more protein).
DeleteI like the way you answered number 1 by saying he had a bigger hunger for something other than berries he wants to hunt for real food, protein.
Delete1. Brian isn't really hungry for food he is just hungry to hunt. This means that Brian is "craving" for adventure, to hunt, to kill. Like when you have the feeling you really want to play Xbox
ReplyDeleteGood job William I like how you compared wanting to hunt and craving for adventure to Xbox.
DeleteIm with Gabby I liked how you compared hunting and craving for food to xbox
Delete1. I think that it is not hunger you get when you're really hungry it is the hunger you get when you really want to do something that you enjoy.
ReplyDelete2. Well it did not really shrink but the amount of food he can take in did so I am going to say NO.
Tyler Wood
I think you could have added a little more to that and explained more. I feel like you did not dig deep into the question and have a FULL response.

ReplyDeleteWhat Brian means by "a hunger that made him look for things, see things. A hunger to make him hunt" was he is never going to feel as full as he has in the past, like when he had eaten "two hamburgers and a freezy slush". It is an instinct in his mind that he will have as long as he is in the forest that would remind him to keep hunting and looking for food to survive.
2) Yes, I think that his stomach has shrunken because he has not eaten as much as he has in the past. His stomach has not stretched out because of that and is smaller.
He means that he had a strange feeling in his stomach that made him want to hunt not for sport but not much to fill him either but had a weird feeling inside himself that made him want to hunt for no reason.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to choose because it could just look like it shrunk but their is a small chance it could have shrunk.
ReplyDeleteI like how you said it could just look like it shrunk or it actually shrunk but I think you could have added a bit more details about why you said that.
DeleteAlso I think that you could have been a bit more specific about your answers.
good one Nicholas but don't forget he got raspberries, turtle eggs, fire wood and tried to get a fish so he could have lost that weight

ReplyDeleteIf you get skinnier your stomach does shrink. WHY DO U THINK U GET SKINNIER.......................................................................................................
DeleteI think you need to say why you think Brian's stomach got skinnier...............
Delete>_<
I like how you said Brian just getting skinner good job
Delete- Bisola Fakayode
Still if you do only eat healthy foods, it could get you skinnier, but however you don't necessarily don't get skinny by just not eating fattening foods. I think you could have phrased that better. You still could earn fat by eating other foods to. ~Kelly Lee
DeleteI made a new answer at the bottom. :)

ReplyDelete1. A hunger to make him hunt.
ReplyDeleteI think when it says Brian has a hunger to hunt he wants meat because if you hunt something you are hunting an animal which has meat. If you are hungry for something that could also mean you WANT it, this is why I think Brian WANTS to hunt
2. In Chptr. 12, Brian realizes that after eating all of the berries he did that his stomach still caved in. He came to the conclusion that his stomach must have shrunk. What is meant by the bold-printed (red) phrase? Did Brian's stomach really shrink? Yes or No and Explain.
I think Brains stomach did shrink because if you don't eat much for a while you start to get skinnier and you cant eat as much because your body's not used to having a lot of food. I think this also because when Brian was surprised that he was still HUNGRY he usually would have been used to eating a lot more, and when you eat more your stomach does the opposite of shrink, it gets bigger (YOU GET FAT).
1. I think that Brian developed this hunger because he has adapted to forest life and knows that he must search for food and all that basic necessities. If he is not doing that his "adaptation" will push him to go and do that.
ReplyDelete2 . I think that Brain's stomach really did shrink because he hasn't eaten a proper meal in days. So his stomach must have shrank and he became skinnier.
1. I don't think Brian is hungrey I think he is just hungrey to hunt because he just has a feeling that he wants to hunt for food.
ReplyDelete2. I don't think Brian's stomach shrunk I think he just lost some weight because when he was feeding the fire he kept running back anf forth to get wood and birtch bark so when he was running and doing other things he could have lost some weight.
2. Brian says "a hunger that made him look for things, see things a hunger to make him hunt" means that Brian isn't saying he's hungry for actual food, he's saying that he really wants to "not be" a city boy and start to see the wilderness as it is. So "hungry" in this type of question is informing you that he wants to get out there in the wild and learn things he couldn't of had learned in the city. I thought of my answer because I knew earlier in the passage it talks about when Brian is talking about how he was a "city boy" with the turtle and the eggs, so I related to that for my answer.
ReplyDelete2. When Brain says that his stomach must have shrunk it doesn't mean his stomach really shrunk. It just means that he looks, and is skinnier than he was before because he hasn't had protein or any kind of meat or chicken. (the stuff that makes you gain weight), so he won't grow he get's smaller. It just looks like he "shrunk" because he lost a lot of weight from his diet.
I like your answer and explaining for question 2.
Delete1.I think what he meant by "a hunger to make him hunt" is he was so hungry he wanted to hunt for food, but not just regular food but meat. It's kind of like when you haven't played games in a long time and you are "hungry for it".
ReplyDelete2. I do not think his stomach shrunk because your stomach grows when you get older. Also he went to get his supplies which made him lose calories. Your stomach does not grow by eating too many things, but your fat supply (what makes up your whole body) grows.
1. It means that the hunger will keep Brian on the move and make him look for food.
ReplyDelete2. I don't think his stomach shrank because it can't shrink and he doesn't have a variety of food to eat so because he's not getting enough it feels like his stomach shrank.
When you said that Brian would always look for food because he's hungry , didn't it say that he was full? But GOOD answer
DeleteI agree with Will Bill but i like how you mentioned a variety of food

#1. A hunger that made him look for things, see things. A hunger to make him hunt."
ReplyDeleteExplain the bold-printed thoughts of Brian regarding hunger. Be specific.
This means he ate some food and he is stronger and so he isn't weak and so he doesn't get tired and he doesn't close his eyes and if he closed his eyes then he wouldn't be seeing these things.
#2. When it says that Brian's stomach must have shrunk it doesn't mean its getting smaller. It means that Brian's getting skinnier because Brian doesn't have a lot of food to eat like he did at home all he has is gut cherries, raspberries and turtle eggs.
2.Brians stomach didn't really shrink it just looked like that because his belly was caved in and looked small and skinny because even though his stomach was skinny , REALLY skinny your s set stomach is the size of your fist.
ReplyDelete2.Brians stomach didn't really shrink it just looked like that because his belly was caved in and looked small and skinny because even though his stomach was skinny , REALLY skinny your s set stomach is the size of your fist.

DeleteHi Cameron,
DeleteThank you for checking in with my Blog. Hope you are doing well?! I know you are a shining student in middle school!
1.]Brian said he had the feeling to do stuff for food like hunting because he is never full but this time he is full.
ReplyDelete2.]Brians stomach did not shrink because after eating all this food he needed and ate his stomach caves in so he is now full. His stomach shrinking is a Figure of speech.
1. When Brian says a hunger to make him hunt that is because the hunger makes Brian want to eat and makes him want to stay alive.
ReplyDelete2. I don't think that Brian stomach shrunk but he just has got skinnerer and he hadn't noticed.
- Bisola Fakayode
1. I think that the sentence "a hunger that made him look for things, see things. A hunger to make him hunt."meant that he was still hungry but not hungry for raspberries because it said that it was the hunger to make him hunt which means the he is needing meat or something cause if the hunger he has makes him hunt he probably needs meat or protein.
ReplyDelete2. Brian's stomach did not shrink it just appeared to be smaller so that he would not get as hungry. If he ate more every day it would appear to be smaller .
~Malachi Etoniru
1.) He means that he was still hungry for something but at the same time fells full from the berries, it also said it made him hunt because he wanted to make a larger food supply back at the shelter. Also it makes him realize that there is a food source in his line of sight, so he would test the source to see if it was any good.
ReplyDelete2.) No, it means that to feel full he only needs to eat less, so his stomach did not "bulge" out like when he ears more at a time, or in one sitting. Also I think his stomach can not shrink. Over time he has started to eat less and eat less often so he did not need as much to eat.
Dear Emily S, When I read your answer for number 1 I thought that Brian had an animal instinct for survival and was not just full at that time.
Delete1. I think the hunger Brian is referencing is the way you feel when you have eaten the same thing and then crave something else in this case I think it is meat because fish is meat and he has been wanting and trying really hard to catch one also when you hunt I think that means you're going to kill something made of meat because animals are meat and you hunt animals.
ReplyDelete2.I think his stomach did shrink because although he had food his stomach had not gotten enough nutrients also I think it started to shrink when he was first starving and that if it your stomach shrinks it takes a long time to get back to normal.
1. Even though Brian had food he wants to make sure he has enough to eat just in case he gets into another life or death situation and can't eat anymore because he has been in a scary situation.
ReplyDelete2. Brian's stomach didn't really shrink. It's just that he hasn't been eating as much as he normally eats and is eating less. His stomach doesn't notice its hunger as much now.

1. What, "a hunger that made him look for things, see things. A hunger to make him hunt" means is that there will always be an animal instinct that will always make him have a need to find food and hunt for it. When Brian first arrived in the wilderness he did not really know what hungry was, he even thought of himself as a city boy. When he was in the city something like one egg and a handful of raspberries would never have made him feel full. He has know turned into some one who will hunt to find food.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, Brian's stomach did shrink because when some one eats very little food over a period of time their stomach actually does shrink. Brian remembered that his stomach would bulge out after eating two hamburgers and a freezy slush so his meal of berries would have been a big difference to him as well.
I love for number 1 how you said he will always have an animal instinct inside of him.
DeleteGood response I would add he had to hunt for survival because it gives him meat and protein to keep him going.
Delete1. I think that "a hunger that made him look for things, see things. A hunger to make him hunt" means that he is full but he still is hunting for food because he realizes that he cant stop looking for food because he still might need it. Also he is used to having food ready and waiting for him and he did not do any work to make that food and he always has the chance to have more like 2 hamburgers even though he is full which is the total opposite of his food situation in the middle of the Canadian woods. Also he has to keep hunting even if he is full he has his mind set to find food to help him survive.
ReplyDelete2. I don't think Brian's stomach shrunk, it did get kind of smaller because he has started a new diet and his body is used to having a lot of food and now he does not have a lot of food. Also he has not had a lot of time to find a lot of food sources that are all around him.
1. I think that when Brian said, "a hunger that made him look for things, see things." A hunger to make him hunt" means that he was completely full at that moment, but he could resist hunting for more food , because he NEEDS food. He needs to learn to get and gather his own food. He is so used to getting his food as fast as possible. But now he needs to GET his food.
ReplyDelete2. I don't think that Brian's stomach shrunk, although it did get smaller because he stopped eating the same amount he did before. Now he is eating less. But I also believe his stomach did shrink. His waist got smaller. Which is kind of like shrinking. ~Kelly Lee
Question1: When Bryan said a hunger too see things ... he meant he will never think the same again when he says a hunger it doesn't mean that he's hungry it means he wants to do things and stuff.
ReplyDeleteQuestion2:I think it did shrink meaning he lost weight because he doesn't have as much food as he's used to and he's losing weight.
1. I think that when he says that it was not the hunger that made him hungry he means that he has a hunger for adventure, a hunger like no other, one that lets him know what adventure he can do to help him survive and learn new things. It helps if you think of when someone says they have a thirst for something or when they have a craving for something. He wants to hunt to ''hunt'' down adventure.
ReplyDelete2.When Brian says that his stomach must have shrunk, It has shrunk, but he has only gotten skinny from eating healthy foods such as the raspberries and he has not ate as much as he has when he was in the city. When he was in the city, he ate hamburgers and fries and fattening foods and in the wilderness he has none of that so in order to survive it's either eat raspberries and get skinny or waste time trying to find a nice hamburger to eat.
1. He means that he wants food like a hamburger and chicken so he wants to hunt a bird because he thought it tasted like chicken and wanted a hamburger so he wants to hunt a animal that that tasted like a hamburger.
ReplyDelete2. No it didn't shrink he got skinnier because he hasn't ate much and it says in #1 that he always has a hunger so he is skinnier, and his stomach hasn't shrunk.
1. The hunger makes him look for food like the gut cherries, raspberries, fish and the turtle eggs. 2. yes his belly did shrink because he ate sleep get wood try to catch fish get raspberries so he has been busy
